It is believed he died on 4 Mar 1865 in Loudon County and there was indeed a skirmish near Philadelphia, TN on 1 Mar 1865. Beersheba Springs, A History claims that Alexander had 3 children and yet there is no evidence of them in the 1880 census. Laura Ann is listed in the 1850 census along with her parents. I believe what happened was that after Alexander was killed in the war, his wife remarried and her children's last names are listed incorrectly.
