blogelo v0.20 beta

blogelo took a major step forward in usability this evening, enough so to bump the version up to v0.20 (still beta).

I finally broke down and learned how to use mod rewrite which means that instead of looking at urls like http://www.blogelo.com/tag.php?tid=32 (which no longer works btw) now the link would be something like http://www.blogelo.com/tag/blog to look sites tagged “blog” for example, or http://www.blogelo.com/users/somegeek to look at my profile, or http://www.blogelo.com/users/somegeek/blog to look at sites I’ve tagged with “blog”. Not only does this make the urls less cryptic, but also makes it much easier to use blogelo as a bookmark manager.

I hadn’t intended to do this, but it just makes the site more compelling if I focus just as much on bookmarks as I am on ranking. That and the lukewarm reception to blogelo’s announcement on digg made me rethink the direction I’m taking.

There is still plenty to do, but if you haven’t looked lately, please do. In additions to tonight’s batch of changes, I’ve added plenty of other things over the past several days. The spy page is fun and also a handy place to see not only what people are voting on, but with rankings are being affected by those votes. Search is in place and can search for sites, tags, and users. Also, you can page through lists that have more than 25 items (for the most part) and the live update works not only on the main page but the tags pages as well. There are lots of other smaller tweaks too.

As always, I appreciate any feedback you might have. Lemme hear from ya!
