The next Lisa Guerrero?

Well, it's official. My wife was able to pick the winner in just as many NFL football games on Yahoo's Pick Em this year, and I'm sure I'll never hear the end of it. We both ended up picking 165 of the 256 games correctly which was good enough to place us in the top 3% on Yahoo (the best record was 178). And if I'm going to get teased for merely tying her, then my buddy Mark is really in for it since he ended up with only 160 correct. Mark and I are by no means experts, but spend a few hours a week watching the games, Sportscenter and the like, and Sue, who rarely watches football and certainly not Sportscenter simply followed her instincts and was right nearly 2/3 of the time. What can we learn from all of this? That parity in NFL makes it difficult to predict the outcomes of games? That Sue communicates with ghost of Vince Lombardi? That she is simply smarter than Mark and me? Nah, that can't be it.

Dang literacy

Last night while Sue and I were watching a movie, our six year old daughter Alexandria came running downstairs shouting, "Momma! Momma! I was upstairs in playing in your closet and I saw a present that said 'To: Alex / From: Santa'"! We sat staring at her slack-jawed. "How did that get in your closet Momma?", continued Alex, "And there are more presents too! Come look!". Sue and I continued to gape. "Well I guess I'd better go look Alex", said Sue eventually and off she went to see how in the world presents to Alex from Santa might have ended up in our closet.

Susie saw the presents (right were she had "hidden" them) and mumbled something to the effect that the presents were really for someone else or something (I didn't make sense to me, but apparently was good enough for our inquisitive little 6 year old) and quickly changed the course of the conversation by asking Alex just what she was doing "playing" in our closet. Anyway, Alex seemed satisfied and didn't ask anymore about it.

So how would you have handled that scenario? And no, telling her that Mommy and Daddy are Santa Claus isn't the answer I'm looking for. I told Sue she should've told her that Santa didn't have room in his sleigh for all her presents and asked if we could keep some in our closet for him until Christmas. But of course that was about 10 minutes later, after my brain started working again.

'03 Flyer squawk 4657

I see according to AvWeb that president Bush is supposed to speak to the crowds at the Outer Banks in North Carolina on Wednesday, which of course, marks the 100th anniversary of powered flight. There was supposed to be a reenactment of the famous 1903 flight that morning, but now I'm wondering...

The president has a 30 mile temporary flight restriction that follows him around the country as he travels. Which is, in my opinion, a load of crap. it is my understanding that all aircraft not on an instrument flight are prohibited and will typically be greeted with F-15's or Blackhawk helicopters or something equally impressive. The Wrights didn't have the forethought to consider the amount of instrumentation required to fly without reference to the ground, so unfortunately the '03 Flyer with not be able to file the instrument flight plan. Which leaves me wondering how they will get around this restriction?

A new member of the family

After many many discussions, my wife finally convinced me that we should get a dog. We've talked about this for years and years and I've always resisted. Finally after seeing my son play with my brother-in-law's little dog in Michigan, and seeing how much both my kids loved having our neighbors dog spend a few days with us recently, I decided that we could "think about it".

Last week I stumbled across Petfinder.com and searched for a Beagle nearby which turned up a 12 week old Beagle, Bernese Mountain Dog mix at Happy Tales Humane in Franklin, named JoJo. After showing the picture of him to Susie, it was pretty much over. There wasn't much chance she was going to let me talk myself out of this. And so Friday we surprised the kids by taking them to see JoJo. Of course they loved him and so by that evening he was in his new home.

He is actually a very well mannered puppy. He's only had a couple accidents and he hasn't chewed anything up yet or dug around in the trash or anything like that. If anything, I'm a little shocked that he's as mellow as he is. I figured, being a puppy, he'd be much more hyper-active, but he mostly just lays around or occasionally nudges you if he would like some attention. So far so good.

Prison mates?

Anyone catch this on Bob and Tom this morning?

http://www.prisonmates.com/

Here's an interesting example:

Name: Gayle
Release Date: Jun. 2006
Crime: Petty Theft
.
.
.
Then later, her profile says "IÕm erotic, honest and loyal...". Obviously her honesty conflicted with her attempt to become a successful thief.

Happy belated birthday

You know I was so preoccupied with all the other birthdays last month that I completely let one slip my mind. On November, 10th 2003, pr3d4t0r.com turned one year old! What began as an idea to just give my old site a quick make-over has evolved into fairly large site encompassing a genealogy section with over 5600 individuals and 1000 surnames, along with a large photo gallery, a forum where friends and family can communicate, and the of course the blog where I can occasionally vent about the things that I perceive as stupid or post little excerpts of some of the things going on in my world.

Anyway, it's been a lot of fun... for the most part. Though lately it's been falling into a little neglect and I hope to remedy that in the coming months. Maybe I'll get off my butt and redesign it to make navigation, not to mention maintenance a little easier. But I wanted to thank everyone who has encouraged me and contributed to the site. We've gone from 2882 page views for December of 2002 to 32,820 page views in November of 2003! So somebody out there is looking at pr3d4t0r.com. Thanks for stopping by. It's been a great first year!
