ClipFiler

Long long ago, I wrote a little trinket for the Mac OS called ClipFiler. ClipFiler was an FKEY that you installed that would grab whatever text you had highlited in whatever application you had running and copied that text and placed in a file called "clippings" on your desktop. That's a slight simplification, but that was basically what it did. So anyway, today I was boppin' around the net when I stumbled across this page mentioning ClipFiler.

Here's a snippet: So anyway, I have a file on my desk called "clippings". If it wasn't there in the first place, it gets made automagically. In there the FKey instantly saves whatever I have highlighted! Christ, It's too early to be trying to explain how marvelous this damn little thing is, so go to the enclosed Anarchie bookmark and read the read me.

Made me smile. Something I wrote so long ago and people loved it. Very cool. The concept wasn't mine however, it was this guy's. Thanks Florian.

Head in the clouds

Sorry I haven't updated my blog lately. I've been spending my spare time lately planning a trip to Michigan for my sister's wedding. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but I've got it in my head that I'd like to fly us up there in the club airplane. I've had my license for nearly 4 years and I haven't really used it much except for short little hops and sight-seeing. I've also been thinking more and more about getting instrument rated and I need some more cross country time before pursuing that goal. This trip would push me close to the 50 hours of cross county time that I need and assuming I get flight following (a given with my wife in the airplane) would give me a lot more experience working with "the system". I'm still here.... just got my head up in the clouds.

Shocked and Awed

A three post day. Sorry I usually don't post so much, but I saw this on Yahoo's Daily Picks and I just had to post it. Shocked and Awed contains a collection of drawings of Operation Iraqi Freedom as depicted by Iraqi schoolchildren. It's very interesting to see how American's are viewed through their eyes. Some see us as liberators, but most depict the ugliness of it all. As the curator of the exhibit says:

It is my hope that many people will see these images to better understand that there are no 'smart bombs.' Children and innocents have been killed, crippled, maimed and orphaned by this war. War is not a football game. There are no winners. War represents the worst of human nature.

Another caption contest

That last caption contest went so well that I've just been waiting for the opportunity to do another one. I saw this photo and knew that it needed ya'lls captions. So how about it?

Got any photos for the next contest? Lemme know if you find one. Yahoo is a good place to look.

Leaking sources

OK, an unnamed source sent me this snippet of news yesterday:

Bush told his senior aides Tuesday that he "didn't want to see any stories" quoting unnamed administration officials in the media anymore, and that if he did, there would be consequences, said a senior administration official who asked that his name not be used.

Now this couldn't possibly be real could it? Sadly, it seems to be. The entire article can be found here http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/nation/7023679.htm at The Philadelphia Inquirer Online.

Layne reunion 2004

I'm sorry, I'm not doing a very good job at keeping everyone up to date on what is going on with the next Layne reunion. I need to update laynereunion.com and send out and some letters and emails. But for right now, I'll go ahead and post the information that I have so far about the next reunion.

The 2004 Layne reunion is scheduled to be held Saturday, June 12th 2004 at Fall Creek Falls State Park at Picnic Shelter #5. More information is available on the Fall Creek Falls web site at http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/fallcrek/. Some family are considering staying an evening (or 2) at the inn, cabins, or campgrounds. So if there is enough interest, there may be some activities on Sunday the 13th as well.

I'll update laynereunion.com and send out announcements ASAP. In the meantime, there are active discussions in the forums and it would great to have your feedback.

The Layne reunion is for the descendants of Henry Miller and Martha Pickett Layne. The latest descendancy is available here: http://www.pr3d4t0r.com/roots/descend.php?personID=I674&tree=Main.

Oh what a fund raiser!

Yahoo's Daily Picks and came across the Blogger Boobie-Thon for 2033. Now this is a brilliant way to raise money for breast cancer research! Everyone should go here and make a donation, I'm trying to, but can't seem to figure out which picture I need to click to donate ;) Oh, and if anyone gives you a hard time about looking at this site you can tell them it's for a good cause!

Update: All donations go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

Birthday Wishes

Yesterday was my mother's birthday (Happy Birthday Mom!) and last Sunday we were at my sister's celebrating. We invited our mom too, by the way. After lunch, the birthday cake was brought out and the usual preparations were made to sing Happy Birthday. Everyone, including my mother, was gathered around while my sister, Roxanne, started placing candles in the cake when the following exchange was heard between my daughter Alexandria and my sister Roxanne:

Alex: How many candles are we putting on the cake Aunt Roxie?
Roxanne: 57 Alex.
Alex: Oh! What a nightmare!
