Attack of the drones

OK remember a while back how the school cafeteria people made my little girl put back her ice cream because she had an $0.80 outstanding balance? Well, my wife went and talked to the cafeteria person and after explaining that it was extremely unlikely that my daughter could have misplaced that lunch money as it is all handled through her teacher, Mrs. Nance, she was credited $0.80. Also during that discussion my wife worked out an arrangement with the cafeteria personnel whereby she goes there every Monday morning and writes a check in the amount needed to cover my daughter's lunch for the week. That way there should be no confusion because a responsible adult is making all the financial arrangements with another "responsible adult". Problem solved, right? Wrong.

Today Alex was told to put her ice cream back because she owed the cafeteria money somehow. No mention of the amount of the discrepancy has been made so far. My wife is home waiting furiously for a call from the school to explain the situation... again. This time she is hoping to talk to the principal, Mrs. Kellye Goostree. I know that there have been other people that have had trouble with the cafeteria workers in the past. Mrs. Nance told Susie how they said she owed them money for a hamburger that she never ate and of course they screwed us out of some money last year. And again, even if the mistake somehow lies with us, let the little girl have her freakin' ice cream and bill me for it!

On the bright side, it's good to see that if Alex's education stops at the first grade, she can at least find employment as a cafeteria worker in a public school.

Star spangled courtesy

I had meant to blog about this Sunday after the game, but I was distracted by football :) But at the Titans game Sunday I noticed something that made me make a frowny face. We all rose and removed our caps for the national anthem as directed by the announcer at the game... except for the women wearing caps. They all stood, but I noticed several around us wearing caps. It seems women that have an exemption that does not require them to remove their hats during the anthem. I'm not sure why this is. Perhaps in days gone by, the big ornate hats that were worn weren't very easy to take off and put back on properly. But we're all wearing ball caps these days and it doesn't seem like it would be that much of an inconvenience. The men and women who have fought and died defending the flag were inconvenienced far more. It doesn't seem like a lot to ask to remove your cap for a minute or two during the anthem in recognition of that.

Quite possibly someone will read this and tell me I'm being sexist and I hope no one feels this way. There are male jerks out there too that don't or won't remove their caps during the anthem too and they aggrivate me just as much if not more so.

Sweet dreams

An interesting conversation with my 3 year old son tonight when we put him in the bed. It went like this:

Me: Aaron, what are you going to dream about tonight?
Aaron: Football!
Me: Football! Cool Aaron.
Aaron: And hockey!
Me: Cool buddy.
Aaron: And... eyebrows!

I wonder what Freud would make of that.

Caption contest

If ever a photograph cried out for a caption contest, it must be this one. So, what is it that Vice President Dick Cheney could be saying here? Submit your captions and the winner gets... hmm... we'll work on that.

Speaking of Britney...

Slashdot has a discussion about some of the 261 people that the RIAA is suing for copyright violation. First, there is a 12 year old girl that lives at a city Housing Authority apartment with her mom and her 9-year-old brother. Also, a 71 year old man who's grandchildren use his computer during visits. Nice.

Are you ready for some Britney?

Maybe I missed this on Thursday's version of Monday Night Football, but last night I'm all jazzed about hearing the familiar strains of Hank Williams Jr. asking me if I'm ready for some football. And so he began and then to my horror, Hank was joined by infamous bubble gum pop star, Madonna kissing, 13 year old teenage girl idol. Britney Spears. ::blink:: Please I'm not trying to be sexist (although ABC most certainly is), but Britney Spears is not what I think of when I think of when I think of football. While I can almost picture Bocephus kicking back with a cold one and watching the game with a bunch of other guys. I just can't see it with Britney. I can see her in a club suite making comments about the cute butts that some of the guys have perhaps and wondering if the home team scored a first down.

Maybe I'm wrong, perhaps Britney is a rabid NFL fan, but MNF's hiring of Lisa Guerrero to work the sidelines shows that ABC is trying to inject a little sex into the show to help lift their sinking ratings. That's all well and good, but if that's the case, and I can't imagine that they hired Lisa because of her impeccable credentials, then be blatant about it. Have Lisa G. parade around in some racy lingerie or something while giving her sideline reports. Or hey, maybe America could call in and decide which player she gets to marry at the end of the game. Oh and while your at it if your going to let Britney sing with Hank, she could at least kiss on him like she did Madonna. I'm sure Hank wouldn't mind.

Or perhaps I'm looking at this all wrong. Maybe ABC has decided that Monday Night Football's core demographic is 12-15 year old girls. If so, then they are on the right track.

Government drones follow up

Friday - Me and Sue were talking about this little problem with the school cafeteria and Sue realized that last year we finished the school year with the cafeteria owing us like a dollar and some change and we never got that money back!

Saturday - We saw the woman that made Alexandria put her ice cream back outside of Wal-Mart. She was with some kids from another school asking for donations for their football team!

Monday - Susie went and talked to the woman at school and got to her remove the $0.80 charge against us (of course she at first said she would not back down). Now Sue will be paying for Alex's lunch once a week and watch her enter the information into the computer to make sure there is no confusion.

Government drones

So, my wife pops on Yahoo Messenger this afternoon to inform me that she is furious at the people at Alexandria's school cafeteria. Alex took $2.00 to school to eat lunch today. Lunch is supposedly $1.50 and ice cream $0.40. So, Alex gets her ice cream but the cafeteria attendant made her put the ice cream back because she owes the school $0.80. Eighty cents! We think that maybe milk isn't included in the cost of lunch and that may be $0.25 extra and maybe that's where the discrepancy is. But come on! Making a sweet little 6 year old girl put her ice cream back because of a $0.80 discrepancy while all of the other children eat theirs? Have a freakin' heart. It's $0.80! It's not going to break the bank and I swear I'm good for it. I pay thousands and thousands of dollars in year in federal, state, county and city taxes, of which a large portion is used to fund that school. Not to mention all the extra supplies that my wife has purchased and donated to Mrs. Nance's 1st grade class. But you guys can't lend my daughter a measly eighty cents!?
