Online status

You may have noticed a little indicator in the top left corner of the title bar. That'll tell you when I've got Yahoo Messenger fired up and I'm sitting near my computer. Clicking on it brings up a page where you're supposed to be able to send a message from your browser, though it's never worked for me. Feel free to say hey.

QA with Mr. & Mrs. Daniel Lee Layne Pt. I

I've been transcribing this book my Mom made for me, which is series of questions my Mom asked her parents, Hazel and Leander Layne, about their lives. It's taking me a while to finish, so I figured I'd go ahead and post the first part tonight and finish the rest, er, later. Anyway, it's here and quite possibly interesting to people that aren't even related.

What are we searching for?

No, this isn't a philosophical post, rather I was nosing around my log files to find out what searches were bringing people to pr3d4t0r.com and my old site. Lately people are looking for "metroid prime mp3s", sorry won't find any here. Some queries are from lonely types: "mcminnville tn sex", "just set up my webcam talk to me please" or "peek at me". "pictures of man vs man" made me wonder. Then I noticed a disturbing trend "big nose", "are my nose to big", and "is my nose big"... What the? Are you people trying to tell me something? And finally this: "harrison or present or alternates or inexplicable or tits". I would love to know what this person was thinking.

But I really don't have the content or the traffic to have a lot of results in my logs. Erin over at gigglechick has done some digging through her logs too. Among the more interesting items: "girls with very big strawberry red nipply that point out", "pedicure fetish", and "penis stretching exercises photos"... ow.

So, all you bloggers, webmasters and the like, what weird search queries are showing up in your log files?

Hike-About.com

For all of my friends and family with an interest in the trails and history of South Cumberland State Recreational Area, aka Savage Gulf and Stone Door, you may be interested in this site. Hike-About.com has a great deal of information on the trails in the park, not to mention a DVD about some of these trails. I found out about this site from a guy named Mike Tripp , who has the same interest in the old Stagecoach Road as I do (unlike me, he's actually hiked this bit of trail).

I should also mention the Friends of South Cumberland site also. It's obvious that these folks care a great deal about the park as well and also have a lot of interesting information.

BTW, If anyone out there has any information about the history of the Old Stagecoach Road that ran from McMinnville to Chattanooga and through the Collins Gulf, please let me know.

Super Bowl XXXVII Predictions

I guess I'll be watching the Super Bowl this weekend despite the Titans loss... . I'd love to here some predictions for the game this Sunday. It looks like we have a chance for another good one. Anybody want to offer any predictions on the outcome? The oddmakers are making Oakland 3 1/2 point favorites, but I think I'll go with the Bucs 23 Raiders 20. If anyone can predict the score exactly right, I'll give them one unused Titans AFC Championship game ticket.

Birthdays

Just a quick note: I added a new page to the genealogy section that shows those people whose birthday is today. Enjoy.

Note: It doesn't work so well for the people I don't have birthdays for :)

Update 01-23-03: I modified this page slightly to show yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's birthdays.

Snow in Nashville

Not often we get a decent snow around these parts, but when it does snow you better hope you're not on the roads. Fortunately I didn't encounter too many problems getting home from work yesterday, and I was able to have a little fun with the kids. There are a few new pictures in the gallery (password required, email me if you need it). And a shaky little movie with no sound (3.2 MB) too.

More ancestors

Lately, I've been focused on data entry instead of research in my genealogical work. This has been pretty boring, so I switched to research again for a while, and the results are a few new connections to the main pedigree. They are:

- Parents of Rachel Nunley, my gggg-grandparents: William Nunley and Jean Miller.

- Parents of Mary Purdom, my gggg-grandparents: Wilson Purdom and Lydia Fultz.

- Parents of Lydia Fultz, my ggggg-grandparents: Daniel Fultz and Philadelphia Williams.

The only blog in town

Slashdot had a story Wednesday about a site called GeoURL that maintains a list of URLs by location. And so I bit, and pr3d4t0r.com is in the database. But 2 days later, I'm still the only site within 100 miles. Of course GeoURL's server was down for a bit yesterday. Anyway it's a pretty neat idea, check it out.

Alexandria's first publication

My 5 year old daughter, Alexandria, decided a few weeks back that she wanted to write a book for her kindergarten teacher. And so (with some help from Momma with spelling) she created this 11 page masterpiece. I expect she'll be on the New York Times bestseller list before you know it. Check it out and you can say that you read Alex before she was famous.

Server info / Gallery update

First, let me apologize to anyone having trouble connecting this morning. Apparently a line was cut somewhere and pr3d4t0r.com and glw.com were both unreachable for most of the day. Sorry.

Next, the gallery has been updated (about time, eh?). There is a new Christmas 2002 album to go along with new pics in the Main, Nature and Flight albums. Enjoy.
